Behind the Plate
There is an enormous amount of effort that goes into making a delicious and delightful plate of food, no matter which restaurant, kitchen, roadside stand, or festival booth you order from, this I promise you. I grew up in a restaurant and never really left. Everywhere I’ve lived, I’ve worked in a restaurant. Some might say it’s my comfort zone, and they would not be wrong. I am one of the weird ones, who loves this industry, for better or worse.
Every restaurant builds its own family. It is one of my favorite truths about the industry. Everyone knows the business is grueling, both mentally and physically, that comes as no surprise. It’s how it comes alive everyday despite the ups and downs, the hardships and triumphs, and those dreaded reviews, that keeps me watching, engaged, and always anticipating. It’s the family that supports it, that keeps it alive, that keeps you returning . It’s the family that makes it look easy as pie with a smile first and a pleasantry following, that puts out the fires, figuratively and quite literally sometimes. It’s about them.
As I currently find myself taking on a new role in the first restaurant I ever knew and loved, I find myself happily tangled up in this world again, and compelled to share it even more. Every great restaurant has a great family that supports it. Sometimes as customers we see the overall picture, and never stop to look behind the plate to the dedicated, passionate, and reliable staff that works together to put it there, which of course is the show by design. However, I can’t help it, I think they are rockstars, and I want nothing more than to highlight that fact, peel back the curtain, and show them out in front.
I am grateful to shine the light on these wonderful people, who are part of the Third & Ferry family, and present them to you in a new way. Step outside the normal restaurant show and dive into their individual worlds for just one night. Provided for you are answers to set of questions I asked each individual in order for you to get to know them a little bit more. You will notice a charity listed at the bottom of each of the answers. The charity listed will receive 60% of the portrait sale.
